The Pitch and Class Feedback

Posted: October 14, 2012 in Uncategorized

After our initial ideas we had to create a PowerPoint presentation to show the class. The idea behind this was that we were pitching our idea for a band to record producers in order to try and get them signed. In our presentation we used the headings:

  • Band Name, Track and Genre
  • Band Image and Representation
  • Key Messages and Values
  • Band History and Career
  • Style of Promotional Material
  • Branding
  • Music Video Ideas
  • Target Audience
  • Related Artists

We did it this way because these were the headings we used to organise our initial ideas. When it came to making the PowerPoint presentation, we stuck to our branding ideas and used a dark crimson red for the back ground, used scratchy, messy font for our Band Name and found a graphic representation of a dead raven to use on every slide, we felt this would strength our branding image. However when presenting the PowerPoint to the class, we missed out a few key things that ended up with the group not being able to properly put across our intentions. When it came to narrative ideas, we didn’t include the track, so for those who hadn’t heard the song, they didn’t understand how our ideas of fears confronted and nightmarish creatures in the form of women fit in with the song, also when it came to Branding, we missed out our ideas for the digipak and album advert, so it looked like we hadn’t discussed them. This came across in our feedback because two comments for ‘room for improvement’ were ‘narrative ideas’ and ‘album advert and digipak branding?’ lastly our third feedback comment that offered constructive criticism was ‘challenge genre conventions more’ and we felt we accurately displayed the fact that we were going to stick to genre conventions in order to appeal to our target audience, our intentions were not to challenge the genre, however, if we could find ways to do this and fit it with our star image, we would.
